Terms of Service
Plain-English terms.
These are the terms that apply when you use SelFly, request a journey, make a booking, or travel through our services. Written without legalese so you actually know what you're agreeing to.
Last updated: 23 August 2026
Agreeing to these terms
- By submitting a trip request, confirming a booking, or travelling through SelFly, you agree to these Terms.
- SelFly is the brand under which these travel planning and private transport services are currently offered, based in Sri Lanka.
What SelFly provides
- Multi-Day Journeys, start with a journey and make it your own by choosing, adding, or removing destinations and experiences.
- One-Day Journeys, choose a day experience and adjust the destinations and activities to suit your day.
- Plan It For Me, our team creates an itinerary based on the information and preferences you provide.
- Transport Only, a private vehicle and driver for travellers who already have their own plans. The minimum booking period for this service is 3 days.
- Where included in your booking, SelFly provides a private vehicle and driver or driver-guide appropriate to the service selected.
- Your confirmed itinerary or booking details will state the vehicle, service, price and applicable inclusions.
Accommodation, flights & entrance fees
- SelFly does not currently include accommodation in the journey price unless specifically stated. You are free to choose and book your own accommodation, with bookings and payments made directly between you and the accommodation provider.
- SelFly does not arrange international flights.
- Entrance fees to attractions, activities and other third-party experiences are generally not included unless specifically stated in your booking. These are normally paid separately.
Pricing
- The price shown during planning and booking is an estimate until your itinerary and booking are confirmed.
- The price confirmed in your booking is the price agreed for the selected service, subject to any changes you subsequently request.
- Currency conversions shown on the website may change according to the exchange rate used by SelFly at the relevant time.
- Any additional charges resulting from requested changes, additional mileage, additional services, extended hours or other agreed extras will be communicated before they are charged wherever reasonably possible.
Included travel distance
- Journey and transport bookings include 120 km of travel per booking day, pooled across the total booking period, for example 3 days = 360 km, 5 days = 600 km, 10 days = 1,200 km included.
- The included distance can be used flexibly across the journey rather than being treated as a separate daily allowance.
- If your total travel distance exceeds the included amount, additional kilometres are charged at the rate shown in your booking or calculator. Where possible, we will make any applicable additional mileage cost clear before the additional travel is undertaken.
Booking & confirmation
- You can submit a journey request through the SelFly website or contact us directly.
- Depending on the service, we may request your travel dates, number of travellers, arrival and departure information, preferred vehicle, destinations or experiences, accommodation information where relevant, and other information required to plan your journey.
- We may then provide an itinerary, route, vehicle information and price for your review.
- A booking becomes confirmed when you accept the proposed booking and SelFly confirms it.
Changes before your journey
- You may request changes to your itinerary before your journey begins. We will try to accommodate reasonable changes, subject to available time, road and route conditions, opening hours, vehicle and driver availability, additional distance, additional costs, and other practical considerations.
- A major change may require the itinerary or price to be recalculated. Where a change affects the agreed price, we will tell you before confirming the change wherever reasonably possible.
Changes during your journey
- SelFly is designed to give travellers flexibility beyond simply choosing an itinerary before arrival. During your journey, you can ask to spend longer somewhere, skip a stop, add a nearby place, change the order of activities, adjust the timing of the day, or make other reasonable changes.
- Small changes can normally be handled directly with your driver.
- Major changes, such as adding a distant destination, significantly extending the driving time, extending the trip or changing the agreed service, may need approval from the SelFly team and may result in additional costs.
- We will always try to find a practical way to accommodate your request, but we cannot guarantee that every requested change will be possible.
Vehicle & driver
- The vehicle provided will be the vehicle category selected or agreed in your booking.
- Vehicle and driver details may be provided before arrival but can change because of availability, maintenance, safety or other operational reasons. If a change is necessary, we will make reasonable efforts to provide an appropriate alternative.
- Drivers are expected to operate vehicles safely and professionally and to follow applicable road and transport requirements.
- Where your booking includes a driver-guide, the service provided will depend on the qualifications and permissions applicable to that individual. SelFly will not represent a driver as a licensed tourist guide unless that individual holds the relevant qualification or registration.
Driver hours & travel time
- Driver availability is normally planned around the itinerary and the practical conditions of the journey. As a general operating guideline, normal driver hours are approximately 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Evening or late-night travel should be agreed in advance.
- Long driving days may need to be adjusted for safety and practicality.
- Travel times shown on itineraries are estimates and can change because of traffic, weather, road conditions, road closures, construction or other circumstances.
Safety
- Your driver may adjust the route, timing or planned activity when reasonably necessary for safety. You must follow reasonable safety instructions given by your driver.
- You are responsible for making appropriate decisions about your own health, fitness and participation in activities.
- Activities such as hiking, safaris, swimming, water sports and other experiences may involve risks that are outside SelFly's control.
Vehicle insurance
- Vehicles used for SelFly bookings are expected to maintain the motor insurance required under applicable Sri Lankan law and the relevant insurance policy, including applicable cover for passengers. Any claim arising from a vehicle accident or passenger injury is subject to the applicable insurance policy, legal requirements and claims process.
- SelFly does not provide your personal travel insurance, medical insurance, evacuation insurance or personal-accident insurance. We strongly recommend that every traveller obtains appropriate comprehensive travel insurance before travelling.
- The fact that a vehicle has applicable passenger insurance does not mean that every medical, travel or personal loss is automatically covered.
Medical emergencies
- If a medical emergency occurs during a SelFly journey, we will reasonably assist you in contacting appropriate emergency or medical services.
- The cost of medical treatment, hospitalisation, evacuation, medication and other personal medical expenses remains the traveller's responsibility unless covered by an applicable insurance policy or otherwise agreed.
Third-party services
- Some parts of a journey may involve independent third parties, including hotels, restaurants, attraction operators, safari operators, activity providers, and transport or experience providers.
- Where you contract directly with a third-party provider, that provider is responsible for its own service, terms, availability, cancellations and charges. SelFly cannot guarantee the actions, availability or performance of independent third parties.
Circumstances outside our control
- Travel conditions can change unexpectedly, including severe weather, flooding, road closures, traffic, strikes, public disturbances, government restrictions, natural disasters, changes to attraction opening hours, accidents, vehicle breakdowns, and other circumstances outside our reasonable control.
- Where this happens, we will make reasonable efforts to find a practical alternative or adjust the journey.
Your responsibilities
- You agree to provide accurate booking, passenger, arrival and departure information; comply with applicable Sri Lankan immigration requirements; follow reasonable safety instructions; treat drivers, staff and local communities respectfully; respect local laws, customs and attraction rules; take responsibility for your own personal belongings; and use the vehicle responsibly.
- Smoking and the use of illegal drugs or unlawful activity inside the vehicle are not permitted.
- You are responsible for ensuring that you have the required passport, visa, ETA or other immigration authorisation applicable to your nationality and circumstances.
Vehicle cleanliness & damage
- Passengers are expected to treat the vehicle with reasonable care. Smoking and illegal substances are prohibited inside the vehicle.
- If significant damage or unusual cleaning is required because of a passenger's actions, SelFly may seek reasonable compensation for the actual resulting cost. Any such charge will be explained to the traveller.
Payment
- Payment is currently made on arrival unless otherwise agreed. Depending on the booking, payment may be made by cash or bank transfer.
- SelFly does not currently require online payment or a booking deposit unless this policy changes and is clearly communicated before booking.
Cancellation
- Because payment is not normally collected in advance, cancellation does not normally result in a cancellation fee from SelFly.
- We ask travellers to provide as much notice as possible so that vehicle and driver availability can be released.
- If a specific booking has separately agreed cancellation conditions, those conditions will apply to that booking.
Booking refusal or cancellation
- We reserve the right to decline or cancel a booking where reasonably necessary, including where required information is not provided, communication is lost before arrival, the requested service cannot be provided safely, the requested service is unlawful or impractical, the traveller behaves abusively or threatens staff or drivers, or the traveller intends to use the service for unlawful purposes.
- Where SelFly cancels a booking for reasons within our control, we will communicate the reason and any applicable refund or payment arrangements.
Personal belongings
- Travellers remain responsible for their passports, money, electronics, luggage and other personal belongings. We recommend that valuables are kept secure and are not left unattended in the vehicle.
- SelFly is not responsible for loss of personal belongings except to the extent that responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded.
Liability
- SelFly will take reasonable care in providing the services described in your booking. We are not responsible for losses caused solely by independent third parties, events outside our reasonable control, or circumstances that could not reasonably have been prevented.
- Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or restrict any legal right or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted under Sri Lankan law, including applicable consumer rights and liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or other liability that the law does not permit us to exclude.
- To the extent permitted by law, SelFly will not be responsible for indirect or consequential losses that were not a reasonably foreseeable consequence of our breach of these Terms. These Terms do not affect any rights you may have under applicable Sri Lankan law.
Your responsibility for losses caused by you
- If your unlawful conduct, deliberate action, negligence or breach of these Terms causes damage, loss, fines or claims against SelFly, you may be responsible for the resulting reasonable costs to the extent permitted by law.
- This does not make you responsible for losses that were not caused by your actions.
Photos & videos
- We may ask for permission to use photographs or videos taken during your journey for SelFly's website, social media or marketing. We will only use identifiable trip content for these purposes where you have given permission.
- You may withdraw your permission for future use. Where reasonably possible, SelFly will remove permitted content from its own website and social media after permission is withdrawn. Withdrawal of permission does not make previous lawful use retroactively unauthorised.
Website & SelFly content
- The SelFly website, itinerary documents, text, graphics, maps, designs and other original materials provided by SelFly belong to SelFly or are used with appropriate permission.
- You may use your personal itinerary for your own travel purposes. You may not reproduce, resell, copy or commercially exploit SelFly's original website content, itinerary materials or designs without permission.
Website information
- We make reasonable efforts to keep information on the SelFly website accurate and current. However, attraction opening times, prices, road conditions, regulations, availability and other travel information can change, and information displayed on the website may change without notice.
- Where a specific price or inclusion has been confirmed in your booking, the confirmed booking information will take priority over general website information.
Privacy
- SelFly collects and uses personal information necessary to provide and manage travel services. Our handling of personal information is explained separately in our Privacy Policy.
Governing law
- These Terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka. Any dispute will be subject to the jurisdiction of the appropriate courts of Sri Lanka, subject to any mandatory rights or remedies available to consumers under applicable law.
- Where possible, we will first try to resolve any concern directly and amicably.
Severability
- If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable under applicable law, that provision will be interpreted or modified only to the extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue to apply.
Changes to these terms
- We may update these Terms when our services, policies or legal requirements change.
- The version that applies to your booking is the version in effect when your booking is confirmed, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
