Trip Tips
A few things worth knowing before you go, specific to the stops on this trip.
Kandy
- Dress modestly, and remove shoes and hats before entering temples
- Afternoon weather can turn quickly, so carry a light umbrella
- Wear comfortable shoes; most sites involve stairs and uphill walking
Nuwara Eliya
- Horton Plains can be 4–8°C at dawn, so bring warm clothing
- World's End has steep, unguarded drops, so stay on marked trails
- Grippy shoes (and leech socks June–December) for muddy trail sections
Ella
- Bring a light jacket for cool mornings and evenings
- Trails to Little Adam's Peak and Ella Rock get slippery, so wear grippy walking shoes
- Start hikes early for cooler weather and clearer views
- Leeches are possible on forest trails during rainy months
Mirissa
- Sunscreen and light clothing for the strong daytime sun
- Early morning tours are calmer for whale watching; motion-sickness tablets help if you're prone to it
- Mosquito repellent for evenings near the beach and lagoon
